Gettin' Open-with EddaDrama

Welcome to Gettin' open-with EddaDrama.

Your boy is a bit down with the NFL Jets goin' down to the Colts in the AFC Championship,
but it's still all good. A very fun run while it lasted. In the end,
I know my boys got beat by a better team, and that good enough for me.

-TNA pullin' off a "Montreal Screw Job"?
Several weeks ago, the WWE Universe welcomed back WWE Legend,'
Bret Hart. Lots of replays of the infamous Montreal Screw job showed.
Hart still made amends with HBK, and wanted the same with Vince McMahon.
Instead, Vince kicked him, and went on to say that he'd never be back in a WWE ring again.
What does all this have to do with TNA? Nothin'....until last week.
In a Genesis rematch, AJ Styles was put against Kurt Angle for the TNA title.
This time, the Champion AJ would be accompanied by Ric Flair. That was expected.
What wasn't expected is how the match would end. What was TNA (Hogan) thinking?
AJ Styles using an ankle lock on Kurt, and having the Ref ring the bell without Angle actually tappin' out?
Then havin' Angle curse'em out and tell him that he'd jump to the WWE for this.
What's really goin' on here though? Is this the "master plan" Hogan? Using an old WWE story,
(A real life story between Bret and the WWE I mind you), and just change the guys involved to throw into your story?
Isn't it enough that you keep tryin' to push the NWO on everyone again? Isn't it enough that you got Ric Flair "passin' the torch"....again?
You guys get 1 thing right by makin' it clear that AJ Styles is gonna be the Flagship of TNA, and whadda do?
Throw in a stupid storyline that bites right off of the WWE?
Let's go Hogan....you've got too much experience for this crap. I know you can do better.

-So then...With the WWE Royal Rumble right around the corner, I'm still wondering when are we gonna see the next
King of the Ring? With the young talent that the WWE are currently pushing, it would be nice to see who would get such a push.
WWE King of the Ring used to be a PPV event. After being an afterthought for way too long, we got a resurrection of sorts when Booker T. Became King of the Ring in 08. For 09 William Regal was there to take over using his RAW GM status in order to secure great advantages in the tournament. But what now? Will Regal be the last King?
Again, with the young talent out there, it's clear that someone could use King of the Ring status in order to push their career.
Or...could all the talk about Booker T's return mean also the rebirth of "King Booker"?

The Royal Rumble Experience......

- By Double A

Now whether your a fan of TNA or the WWE, there is a good chance that you are a fan of WWE Royal Rumble event every January. Since 1988, this tradition kicked off the road to WrestleMania. Which is the biggest wrestling show on the planet, without question. While the event features about 6 matches, the highlight of the show has always been the Royal Rumble match. Sometimes dubbed "the 60 most exciting minutes in wrestling". Even though the match always goes over 60 minutes.

However, only a few of us have been lucky enough to witness the event live. I was privileged enough in 2006 to be at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida and saw first hand how exciting the match is live. The event itself was nothing to write home about. Sure, we saw John Cena defeat Edge to regain the WWE Championship. But the Royal Rumble match was it. No matter what else happened during the night, I was there strictly for the Royal Rumble match.

Triple H and Rey Mysterio were the first 2 entrants in. And stayed in the match the entire time. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Every time a new superstar came out, I counted down with the rest of the 17,000 WWE Fans in attendance. And when Rey Mysterio won the match, I cheered with everybody. Sure, I wasn't a big fan of Rey Mysterio. And he won mainly because of the recent death of Eddie Guerrero. But the atmosphere in the American Airlines Arena that was just electric. And it was difficult not to gravitate towards it.

When the 2007 Royal Rumble rolled around, naturally I watched it on television because it was in San Antonio, Texas. And while I enjoyed watching The Undertaker win the Royal Rumble match, something was missing. It was the live atmosphere for such a unique event. Now everybody will tell you, all wrestling fans at one time or another should go to WrestleMania. While that is true, I also will tell them, if you have a chance to witness the Royal Rumble live, go for it. The people in Atlanta, Georgia are quite lucky to be hosting this year's January classic.

Gettin' Open-with EddaDrama

Welcome everyone, to a Post TNA Genesis edition of Gettin' Open-with EddaDrama.

This week I'll give my review of the TNA PPV and talk about some of the matches. Plus thoughts on ECW.
*on a side note though...Shocker of the week in the NFL....JETS BEAT CHARGERS!!
That's what's really good I didn't even know they had it in them.
Go NY! Go Jets!!

Genesis had a pretty nice PPV showing. Hogan started out things with a 4 sided ring.
Stating that the 6 sided ring is dead and the 4 sided ring is where wrestling is.
(The 6 sided ring is one thing that made TNA unique, but I like the change).
-Amazing Red defended his title against former WWE star...The Brian Kendrick.
Kendrick was a step off, but Red was great. Side note...I really hope that goin' forward,
TNA will give the X-Division the push that it deserves. WCW did big with the Cruiser Division....
The X-Division has the potential to be much better.

-Victoria/Tara beat ODB to become Knockout's Champ. (Thank God). Will they stop givin' ODB the belt already.

-So the NWO ...ah,..The Band was back in action. Hall and Nash..wait.
Hall was there, but "he couldn't compete" in a tag match vs Beer Money. So Syxx and Nash
did the deed. Hall came out at the tail end of the match and cost his boys the whole thing.
When will TNA can this guy?

-So Val Ve...wait He's Shawn somethin' right now. He beat Daniels.
...He beat Daniels?! never mind.

-New tag champs! Hernandez and Matt Morgan beat British Invasion. Nice match...just felt like a miss match.

-Mr. Kennedy/Anderson made his debut on the PPV vs Abyss and had a decent match.
Funny thing...he actually look like he got hurt again. LOL. He should be good to show up for Impact though.

-AJ Styles beat Kurt Angle for a 2nd time...but unlike the 3hr Impact show, this time Styles turned heel,
and had help (Ric Flair) in order to get the job done. I like the heel turn. Styles is very skillful,
but he's still a small dude in a big guy's world. HBK and Randy Savage were bigger than Styles is when they were on top.
It's hell tryin' to be the man when you're a cruiser weight in the land of Giants.
(Ask Rey Mysterio). Having Flair will help things out. Plus it finally gives a good reason for
Flair to be out there.
-TNA Genesis gets a 3 out of 5.

-Gotta say that I'm impressed with ECW strong man Ezekiel Jackson after winning
the Over the top rope challenge and becoming the number 1 contender for
Christian's ECW title. It's very possible that we're lookin' at the next ECW Champ.

I just watched something quite interesting.......

By Double A

On this boring Wednesday Night, I turned on the ol' Comcast OnDemand and came across a very interesting episode of MTV's True Life entitled "I'm a Fanboy". It followed the life of 3 people and their obsession with certain what would be classified as nerdy things. While all were interesting, the one that really got me thinking was this one guy who is 26 years old, has a crush on a 17 year old girl, and both are beyond obsessed with Power Rangers.

The guy in particular was insanely obsessed. Need proof? Below is a video of when he and his crush went on a casual date to a local comic book store. And the made a discovery of a good condition Dragon Dagger from Power Rangers. Oh and by the way, listen to what he says about his crush. Remember, he is 26 and she is just 17.

Now while I am not here to make fun of this poor putz, he I see a lot of him in a typical wrestling fan. And we know for certain there are a lot of wrestling fans out there that are just 10 times worse then this guy. Hell, there is a little bit of him in all of us. Think of about the first you ever got tickets to a wrestling event. Or maybe you met your favorite wrestler.

We are all nerds or dorks for wrestling. Otherwise I wouldn't be hosting a wrestling talk show, or even writing this blog. And by the way, you wouldn't be reading this for that matter if you weren't one. The moment you just saw above is what we like to call "marking out". Just 10 short days ago, many of you were marking out when you saw either Bret Hart or Hulk Hogan return.

What's the purpose of this blog you ask? To make you aware that us wrestling fans aren't the only ones who have those kind of moments. Be proud that you like professional wrestling. Don't hide it like it's something shameful. Ten years ago, things were very different and being a wrestling fan was classified as "cool". Today in 2010 it's like, "Oh God". You know what I say to the detractors, screw you and look at my US Title Championship Belt. And if you have the ba.....I mean the nerve, give them a good swift kick in the crotch.

And in case your wondering, the guy went with his crush, her twin sister, and their friend to a concert of a band that played songs from the Power Rangers. And afterward, they shared a bed. Draw your own conclusions.

Gettin' Open-with EddaDrama

Once again it's on. Welcome ladies and gents, to another edition of Gettin' open-with EddaDrama.

This week's topic is simply about what could be the start of the "new" Monday night wars. Simply put. TNA has put their first Monday night Impact in the books.
TNA decided to go WCW and put out a 3hr show. While puttin' on "Hogan's show" for the 1st time in TNA, WWE put out some impact of it's own.
WWE Hall of famer Brett Hart was GM for the week.
Since I went "Pro WWE" last week, this week let's go TNA.

-That Steel Asylum cage match that featured some of the best in the X-Division today felt like a bad idea right from the jump.
Don't get me wrong, the stars involved wasn't the problem....that cage was the problem. What kinda crap was that?
You're supposed to climb the dome cage all the way to the center and escape through the little hole at the top of the cage?
Seriously??!! What..the regular 6 sides of steel match isn't workin' for TNA anymore? That dome cage sucks! They better stop using it if they don't wanna see people get hurt.
If you needed any proof about how dumb this cage idea was, then look no further than when Homicide cleared the ring by hitting all of the other wrestlers with a weapon, then attempted to escape the cage without interruption.
That didn't work out at all. It's not the wrestler...it's the cage! ...And what's with a "No contest" call in a cage match?
Really?! That's super cheesy. This match had a very bad first impression for me.
Former WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy saved the segment in my eyes. Coming out and beating on Homicide....wait..How did Homicide get out of the cage again?
None of the other wrestlers got out, but Homicide got to leave the cage even though he failed to escape out the top of the cage.
Opps!....Looks like he was supposed to escape to the outside and brag about it, just to run into Hardy. It didn't work out nearly the way that TNA wanted it to, but still...having Jeff Hardy show up was the highlight of the night for me.

-I also liked Samoa Joe vs Abyss. And the Main event match...AJ Styles vs Kurt Angle was a classic. Former WCWVP and RAW GM Eric Bishoff will take credit for makin' that match. I hope he learned a little bit more about Styles after his performance.
I just looked to me like Bishoff doubted Styles while talkin' to him.

-So Val...ah.."towel boy"..(whatever) made an apperance on the show and....ya know...nevermind all that.
-Ric Flair showed up as expected and was greatly recieved by the TNA fans.
-The Nasty Boys?! What's really good with that? These dudes don't really want a piece of Team 3D do they? Better question....TNA don't want the Nasty Boys..do they?
Hogan went deep into his Rolodex for that one.
-Finally, the old NWO guys got back together again. My question is...can we now count on Scott Hall to show up to PPVs? He keeps gettin' booked, and then not showin' up.
Plus...he better get in better shape than what I saw on this show. Nash and Syxx can get in and wrestle right away if asked. But I couldn't say the same for Hall.
*Overall the show was decent enough to put on though nothing at all to brag about. TNA could've really used some other talents other than Jeff Hardy.
Where's RVD? Even more so...where's Mr. Kennedy (Anderson)? TNA better stick to Thursdays at least until they get some REAL talent to complement their current superstars.

Monday Night Exhibition

Last Monday, Jan 4, TNA waged war with WWE. Or did they? The product put on Monday night, while reminiscent of the late 90's because of the talent, was not of the same quality from those times. Meaning: they both sucked and they both had some good spots.

Besides the Bret Hart segments, RAW was nothing special. I really hope that RAW does away with the guest hosts, as I haven't liked them from the beginning. RAW just seems like one big commercial nowadays. The guest stars are plugging whatever they've got coming out. DX is plugging a WWE product. Where's the excitement? I know wrestling for me will never be like it once was mainly because of the internet.

There wasn't one person on the TNA payroll who wasn't hyping Monday Night Impact! Vince Russo blogged that lives would be changed forever... Maybe Vince should go write soap operas instead. Impact was such an oddity that I feel like I can even review it. Everything seemed smashed together. Nothing flowed. They had some nice surprises like Jeff Hardy and Hall & Syxx. And it was cool to see the Outsiders together again. BUT, why did we see it? It wasn't like we haven't seen the nWo reunite before. It's been 2 years since Hall was in TNA. It's been 12 years since Bret was in WWE. For anyone to say that that is anywhere near comparable is ludicrous. The sad thing is that TNA fans are drinking the kool-aid, and it's the crappy orange kind. Oh yeah RIC FREAKING FLAIR showed up! Instead of addressing Russo, Hogan, Bischoff, or any of the other new faces, he just walked around. That's one appearance gone that you wasted, TNA. What I don't get is that I can write stories 1,000,000 times better than that, but Russo is piggy backing off of the Attitude Era, an Era mind you where the wrestlers were encouraged to come up with their own promos and characters. I'm tired of Russo taking credit for Stone Cold and The Rock's brilliance to connect with a crowd. Then when Russo gets his shot, he produces crap. How many do-overs does this guy get?

Enough about wrestling. The NCAA Football National Championship game took place yesterday, and I thought it was the best bowl game yet. So much drama. So much intensity. Texas lost their Heisman candidate QB early in the game. The true freshman backup stepped in and was shaky, at first, but then started to get comfortable with the offense. I was really disappointed in Texas' O-Line and their redzone offense. Colt McCoy is a good QB, and deserves to be taken high in the draft. Alabama just wouldn't quit. Their run game was deadly, and Sabin knew he just needed to stick with that. Their defense was ok. They made big plays as well as gave up some. But the safety from Bama, Anders, his stock just skyrocketed.

What to expect from The Rant in 2010

- By Double A

In 2009, The Rant grew by leaps and bounds. With a change of networks, a revamp of the theme song and graphics, and the addition of a new co-host, many things happened to the show. And you can expect a lot of big things to happen to The Rant in 2010. Here is just some of things you can expect this year:

New features outside the actual show. We started off the year with this brand new blog section. And with recent addition of Facebook and Twitter to the list of our output sources, we bring in the brand new Pay-Per-View Scoreboard. In the blog section of The Rant's MySpace Page you will be able to keep track of how our predictions stack up to each other. We'll find out who is dead on with their picks and who needs some work. And currently we are in the very early stages of getting a new website up and running.

Be on the look out for not only a new logo and graphics, but a brand new theme song to debut. While that might be a minor thing, what we have in store in something very special. Also favorite segments and special shows return. Including the widely popular listeners choice show. It's where we open up the show to the listeners to talk about whatever they want us to talk about for the entire 2 hours. And here are some of the important shows coming up this year:
- 3rd Annual WrestleMania 3-Hour Special
Sunday, March 28 - 2pmE/11amP/8pmUK

- Listener's Choice - March
- 3rd Anniversary Show - 3-Hour Special - July
- Saturday Night Special - This Summer
- And many more.....

And who knows what else you will hear on the show this year. Maybe a new voice? Or maybe an old one? It's all apart of The Rant in 2010. Stay tuned for one hell of a ride that all begins This Tuesday Night, January 12th at 8pmE/5pmP/1amUK on BlogTalkRadio.com/TheRant

Gettin' Open- with EddaDrama!

Gettin' Open-with EddaDrama.

Yes indeed fans! It's your boy EddaDrama here to give my two cents on some things that I'm lookin' forward to in 2010.
So this week, I'll give us a little Spotlight on some of our Champions.

Gotta give WWE some credit for the stunt they pulled giving current WWE champion Sheamus the title over John Cena. Talk about a new guy makin' an impact!
I won't be surprised to see more from this upstart. I see Sheamus being the WWE's "security blanket" or fall back champion, in case some injury should happen to any of the top contenders.

The United States Champ..The Miz, had a really good 2009 season as well.
Not lettin' the split up with former tag partner (John Morrison) mess things up for himself, Miz kept himself in the spotlight any way he could.
Becoming US champ allows Miz to continue to boast that "He's Awesome".
Miz will have plenty of problems in 2010. Contrary to the fact that the WWE champion has a big bullseye on him. The Miz and that US title will be the big gold that many will try to get to make their mark on RAW this year.

On the Smackdown front...
Undertaker is in for a lot of challenges...even if it's from the usual suspects. Batista and Mysterio ain't goin' nowhere soon...unless Batista breaks Mysterio in two. If CM Punk puts his name back in the hat, that would be one thing...but how bout Y2J? Taker has been holdin' Smackdown on top of his shoulders in 09. Now everyone will look to sink him.

And how about our new Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre? I think this dude will be somethin' special this year. It'll only take a few weeks to figure out if this is right...but I think that this guy is in for a long IC title reign.
overall, I won't be surprised if he also become a multiple time champ this year. No doubt in my mind that he'll have a chance to throw his name in the hat as the best IC champ of all time.

Finally on to ECW...
Current champion Christian made the most with the cards he was dealt. Sent directly to ECW upon his return to the WWE from TNA, The former TNA champ simply owned the position and climbed to the top of ECW. I think that soon, another will get the chance to keep ECW on the map though. Christian will continue to entertain the masses and I think that Christian will get a chance to get back at the Tag titles this year. I know it sounds crazy. And I know that he's kinda been there before, but things are different now.
Unified tag champs? That's big. Christian can pull a "Y2J" move and get a top superstar to team up with, and make things happen. This would mean that he wouldn't be stuck on one show either. That's really big for him.
Heck...it's possible that at some point, we might get to see Christian team up with former tag partner...Edge.

Well, that's about all for this week. I'll be back again next and every Monday for more of my insights.

'Till next week then...I holla!!

A Preview for 2010

-By Lexicon

2009 is done and in the history books. Whether you loved it or hated it, it was what it was. 2010 looks like a much stronger year already, but we'll see how everything unfolds. Bret Hart returns to a WWE ring after a 12 year shun of Vince McMahon's program. Have you finally forgiven Vince, Bret? Or did you finally see enough zeros on that contract offer.

Hulk Hogan joins up with TNA to try to take down Vince and the WWE. Shame on Vince for giving Hulk the stage to become what he is today. I mean that in terms of a wrestling character of course, because the human being Terry Bollea is a divorce away from being homeless. Of course he'll always have Eric Bischoff's couch to sleep on, assuming that Bischoff isn't staying at Jason Hervey's place. WINK. Or is Hulk really wanting to help out this young company and make big stars out of "the little guys"? Something tells me that the moment AJ Styles makes a dollar more than Hulk, he'll be jobbing to Cody Deaner.

See? Good stuff already! One thing is for sure: WWE needs to get their act together. They are loosing fans left and right for insulting their intelligence. The writing has gotten lazy. The young stars are hitting a glass sealing, and others are taking the Triple H and Shawn Michaels elevator to the top. Even the booking seems lackluster. I don't think WWE has to worry about being put out of business by the hands of TNA though. TNA will run out of financial support before they can take over the ratings. I know everyone at TNA has been trying to stick it to WWE for awhile now, but what they don't seem to realize is that there is hardly any loyalty in wrestling. Most anybody they bring over from WWE will more than likely return to WWE or just straight up leave (see: Christian and/or Booker T)

So since a ratings war is unrealistic, what I'll do is measure the quality of each company in a 4 quarter grading system (3 months, 6 months, etc.) Let the war begin.
